We go on walks every day. There’s a beautiful neighborhood we like to walk in because the trees are big and the landscaping is beautiful. The houses are bigger and nicer and for sure it’s a wealthier neighborhood than ours. The lawns are one shade of dark green and sculpted with paid-for precision. I always walk through it feeling a tiny pang of envy and a general feeling of not quite measuring up.
But every time we cross the street into that neighborhood, Auden (my two and an half year old) asks where all the dandelions are. He loves holding them and wearing them and stuffing them into his pockets. He‘ll keep asking if he can hold them and I’ll keep telling him he’ll have to wait til we find some closer to our house where the weeds are everywhere.
I’m sure there’s a petal of wisdom in there somewhere.
